Summer 2017 Trend Report

We’ve taken inspiration from travel and the natural world for our SS17 collection with tropical and fine floral prints creating a recurring motif across the range. The use of these colourful prints is especially apparent in shirting but also makes an appearance in a more understated way through trim and detail in our tailored garments.

The travel theme has also been a major influence in the creation of our new range of “casual suits” with lighter weight fabric mixes and less structure, particularly in their “shirt sleeve” style shoulder.

That line between formal and casual is blurring ever further and this trend is key in the summer months, a time when every man wants a “dressed up” option which is lighter in weight. Additionally, the jacket of our casual suits are styled more like our casual jackets with feature buttons and trims which wouldn’t be typical of a formal suit. This gives the option of wearing the jacket separately as part of a casual look or with the matching trouser for the complete outfit – perfect if attending a summer wedding.

The colour palette this season focuses on key masculine colours of blue, light summer grey and cool sand and stone shades but these are highlighted with contrast trims and details from the hotter end of the natural colour palette, including orange and berry tones. Soft pinks, blues and even a touch of cool green also feature across the collection in shirting.

Our trademark focus on fabric is in evidence this season with textured materials such as slub-effect knitted cotton tees and new, interesting yarn structures in sweaters. Linen and cotton is important for our sartorial collection and jersey returns as part of our casual offer for the season. Texture is always massively important and this will be evident through soft touch and Oxford cottons in shirting and in tailored garments with surface interest woven into the fabric.
