The Tinkerman

As we’re seeing time and again at this World Cup, attention to detail is everything in football. Those minute tweaks, whip-smart micro-tactics and timely touches can help an attentive team snatch victory from the clutches of the most stubborn opponent – just look at the deft interplay in the indirect free-kick from which Toni Kroos scored that goal for Germany against Sweden, or Jesse Lingard’s superb off-the-ball movement throughout England’s 6-1 drubbing of Panama. At RU, we place a lot of value upon such subtle adjustments and intricacies in our formalwear, from micro-check patterning to geometric print.

But it’s not just the clothes you’re wearing – it’s how you wear them. Allow us, then, to introduce you to one of our favourite expert tactics: the perfect range of formalwear hacks and accessory tricks.

A regal alternative for those who like to stand out a little.

  • Place the wide end of the tie considerably lower than the narrow end.
  • Put the wide end atop the narrow end and wrap it around.

The Albert Knot

  • Form a loop in the front once you’ve completed the wrap.
  • Neaten the knot, adjusting and tightening to taste, and place your collar back down over the necktie.
